Tap Dancing Workshop Begins Wednesday

Tap your way into Stockton Civic Theatre’s production of 42ND STREET, directed by Jim Coleman! Auditions for the show are March 27–28, and performance dates are June 29-July 24, 2011. If you haven’t seen 42ND STREET, rent the movie, and you’ll see how vital great tap dancing is to the show.
Consequently, SCT, in collaboration with Elaine Orimo’s Stockton Ballet School, is offering a 6 week tap workshop for those interested in auditioning. The choreographer is Evelyn Barney, a fabulous tap dancer herself, who works for Elaine at the school. Workshops will take place on Wednesday evenings from 7:30–8:30. The dates for the workshop are February 9, 16, 23 and March 2, 9 and 23. The fee is $60.00 for all 6 classes. A small number of partial scholarships will be available, but you should apply immediately. The workshop is open to dancers and actors ages 16 and over. Some previous knowledge of tap is preferred, but not mandatory. If you don’t think you need the whole workshop, drop-ins to classes are $15.00 per class. This offer is available only to people interested in auditioning for 42ND STREET. To join in the fun, call Stockton Civic Theatre, (209) 473‑2400.

Welcome to SCT!

Stockton Civic Theatre’s new blog is now accessible from our website homepage, or from its own URL. As in most blogs, we will use it to publish news and announcements on a very frequent basis. Target audiences are our SCT actors and volunteers, but we hope this will be equally attractive to patrons who have an interest in backstage and front of the house happenings. Subjects will include just about anything you can imagine:  short profiles on cast and crew, up to the date auditions and cast announcements, special needs of the theatre, fundraising reports, and any statements that need to be posted online immediately. All it takes to be considered for publication will be a rough draft submitted to the News&Cues email address, available on our website. We can easily publish announcements from theatre management, the Board, show directors, and volunteer groups. We can make pleas for helpers, promote shows, and publicize special events. We can also post photos, sound bites, videos, you name it. We’re really glad to be here with you, and want to help you however we can!
